|on a good note,
I closed my first play I ran sound for at the Alley today. It was GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES with Selma Blair. Next up is David Sedaris play THE SANTA LAND DIARIES. I have the load in this week and tech starts next Tuesday. I cant wait to jump on sound again for that show. same show for me but different actor, setup, and theatre. Still it will be awesome. Oh yea and check it out. my pic ended up in this thing about our backstage listing system. GQ here I come man.http://www.lsionline.co.uk/news/story/Clear-Com-at-Houston-s-Alley-Theatre/-7Z9ZHC
Ok this perhaps the greatest example of things I see at my work. Whats sad is I see this kinda of thing in EVERY job I have had.
Its like the biggest fear I have when I see people walk off and whisper. or worse Whisper to one another while I'm still in the room. I have seen this on more occasions than I can ever care to count man. It drives me so crazy because I never know what its about or if its about me. Its times I see crap like that that makes it impossible for me to focus on my job. anyway just needed to share this moment that Family Guy nailed.
ARRRRG HATE THAT CRAP!!!

|My 1st show as a sound operator at the Alley Theatre
My first show show as a sound engineer/ operator (same thing) since I was an overhire sound op for W;T way back in 2000. Gruesome Playground as some of you have heard will star Selma Blair from the Hell boy films, Storytelling, Cruel Intentions, and Legally Blond. Here's a poster for the play. Its written by Rajiv Joseph who is a new playwright and a damn good one. I highly recommend his work.
During the course of this rehearsal, Rajiv has actually been on hand during our work onstage. again its a new play and its making its premiere at the Alley. Its interesting to see the changes that happen as you watch a work in progress. The play to me has been just awesomely mind blowing to both watch and work. Very well written and great acting from both actors Selma Blair and Brad Fleischer. I hope everyone can take the time to come out and see the show.
For all you Selma Blair fans out there check out this short film
THE BIG EMPTY

Next week however the new sound engineer starts and it will probably be crazed next monday. Not sure as to why he is starting later than me? The show I work on the Neuhaus stage begins tech toward the end of September. Next week we have to start loading in for the first show of the season on the Hubbard stage.

|AnGrY and sad
Last few days I keep getting pissed at every little thing. Traffic of course being the ultimate. Course who doesn't get mad in traffic? by the second day of driving toward Galveston in all that mess I just wanted to quit and go back home. Yesterday and today however I threw a fit at a light hang I was working on. I was pissed because the way some of the lighting had been hung in the grid was highly half ass. for example, I would go to take down a source four, as soon as I got atop the ladder and put my hand on the instrument. a small piece of hard ware fell out of it. as I looked closer I noticed the instrument had been hung completely upside down over the stage. The gobo frame slid out when I just touched the instrument. at first I was like "Ok, whos the @$$ hat?" later on as I proceed to take down stuff I find more things wrong. more instruments upside down or the barrel in upside down. one source four had a gel shoved in its frame that was cut way too big to fit in the frame and had been folded over to fit in it. there was also a lot of stuff hung up hi that was loose on the pipe and not even clamped down. I started to get pissed because it had then occurred to me that whoever had worked the last hang half ass'd the work. later I found out they had a someone who had never hung in the grid before and well, his work showed it. I was just pissed that someone would even attempt to do this job and just assume its ok to half ass this stuff. hello, there are actors onstage under the instruments you have ever so unsafely manage to hang over them. whatever... so yea needless to say I was pissed. PISSED... There was a volunteer working the hang with us and he cracked jokes about the whole thing like" whatever there just actors." I replied "sorry bub but I know some of these actors longer than Ive known you". I wanted to hit the dude with my wrench with the hope his common sense of an IQ might register long story short I made my point to the T.d. and the light designer there and its been noted to keep a carefull eye on what happens at the next hang. I kinda doubt it tho. everyone that works there is pretty old and well I hate to say it but they seem to old to care. least I guess they do I dunno. anyway I hope they fix it.
Later on I met with Tiff in Galveston to head back home. she was hanging with some of her old co workers from her old job. I picked her up and she told me that the dinner plans we had with them had fallen thru. I think they were house cleaning? Tiff asked me if there were anyplace I would like to go. Sadly I started getting depressed. because I realized there was really nothing to do on the island. mod!!! Nope too depressing because its just not the same place anymore. Call people!!! yea right... I'm lucky to get anyone to call me back every time we come out there. If anyone does call us back its like a good bet folks are busy or something. Eventually after much deliberation I just decided lets go home. driving home I really felt sad because I think from now on If we go back I'm just really not going to go outta my way to contact anyone anymore. even the people that live in the area from now on. Sorry if know one else wants to see us then fine I don't care anymore either folks.see ya... Current Mood: bitchy

|caught in the act
Trust me when I tell you this girl is at work being a reporter. well ok yea she might be chatting it up online with you right now, watching the Daily Show, and looking at vintage stuff online but I gurantee you she is at work. Must be rough one thinks? Some days I think its pretty easy for her, and others, not so much. It may look easy from one perspective but I can assure you she truely is busting ass. Oh and by the way folks... You would not believe some of the places I have heard her call. Its pretty awesome to think about.

|Back in my habbit but slightly askew
Ah yes we are in our new home and working our way outta ze boxes so to speak. Things are getting into place here slowly but surely but hey man, there gettin there aight. I'm psyched about our new home, and living in an area that is like ol downtown Galveston in a way. I can't wait to break my bike out and ride. Either to work or just to random ride. I'm taking my time with it yo. I kinda still need to feel out our new surroundings. Like getting to know what areas are safe to ride in ya know? So far we have frequent cafe Brazil for breakfast twice now. something I have always, but always wanted to do. Its fragging awesome yo. This morning we got up and drove to Brazil for brunch. Later on we went over to Cactus records to check out the shop and a live show. The live show was ah this new up and coming singer Jenny Wolf. Its Ok if your into the Avril Lavigne thing. What cracked us up was the young singer looked very 17 but her band looked very senior citizen discount. Ha... anyway, T.L an scored some goodies there at the record shop. Micah and Marcus if you cats ever hit H- town I'm dragging your arses there. we walked away with self titled Ramones, Blondie, and Carol Kings Tapestry Album on wax. There was more like Television and Motorhead on vinyl but that will be next trip. Were in a recession ya kno, cant have it all. Afterwards we went to the the Alley and caught a matinee for MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER. We Caught up with some of our new friends, Luis and his wife Miranda for birthday diner at Mamas cafe. We had plane to see the WATCHMEN movie with them but we didn't get our tickets in Advance and the show they had tickets for already had sold out. No big tho, Tiff and I had Seen it for its midnight showing last Thursday, and we wanted to see SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Great flick I have to add. See this movie its worth it, but still try and see WATCHMEN. Sunday I think were going to try and crack the rest of theses boxes open and get our shit organized. We both have the day off and we need to laundry and whatever, stuff. I'm so excited bout our lives here now. I get spaced out when I look outside and see the downtown skyline. Man, its like so effin RAD yo!
